Manchester United signs deal with 20th Century Fox

American company 20th Century Fox and English soccer giants Manchester United have begun a global partnership.
The agreement means that Manchester United will promote blockbuster films at Old Trafford. Like the soon to be released Deadpool, X-Men: Apocalypse and Independence Day. The promoted films will be advertised on digital perimeter boards and post-match interview backdrops.
“Both Manchester United and 20th Century Fox are leaders within our respective industries and we are delighted to be able to work with them in introducing each other to new audiences, creating unique content, such as the players’ recent encounter with Deadpool,” Richard Arnold, Manchester United’s managing director, told the club’s official website.
England and Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney celebrated the new venture by posing with Marvel character Deadpool. A host of Manchester players will be required to help showcase new films. Despite the exciting commercial opportunity, the past year has seen poor results for the Manchester on and off the pitch. The soccer club’s New York-listed shares have slumped 18.5 per cent from US$17.88 at the end of 2015 to US$14.52, dragging United’s value to below US$2.4 billion, a US$500 million loss to the Manchester club’s value.
